At 7.30 PM on 15th April 2026, the 23rd edition of Asian Cinema Festival in Rome has come to an end with its traditional awards ceremony. The president of the jury this year was famous television journalist Francesco Maesano and the Kingdom of Cambodia was honoured with the Best Actor Award granted to Piseth Chhun, a young and talented actor for his moving and sensitive interpretation of Hai, a journalist who meets a young girl’s spirit,(played by young and talented Savorn Serak)the guardian of a cinema hall which is about to be demolished in Ly Polen’s poetic movie “Becoming Human”.

The plot: in an abandoned cinema’s former spirit guardian wanders through rapidly transformed landscapes to reach her rebirth. Shocked by the world’s brutality, she must
decide whether to become human again or remain ​a homeless ghost. She meets Hai and they will go through a meditative journey during which they will exchange their point of views on Cambodian society use and habits.

Piseth Chhun said he was first confused, surprised and then very excited in a vidéo message which was cheerfully welcomed by the Farnese cinema audience. He declared he will cherish this award and promised to visit Rome as soon as possible. Prince Sisowath Ravivaddhana Monipong who is currently ambassador of the Royal Household of Cambodia was kindly requested to receive the award on behalf of Piseth Chhun.
